The LOC is actively seeking interested academic and non-academic colleagues to get involved with the conference organising committee. We are seeking a range of volunteers across a range of activities and skillsets.

Why not watch this video explaining how you can get involved? And then complete our Expression of Interest form here.

We will be in touch with volunteers in the coming months.

Welcome to the 35th International Geographical Congress – Dublin 2024

Welcome … Bienvenue … Céad Míle Fáilte.

It is my absolute pleasure to invite you to the 35th International Geographical Congress (IGC) which will be held in Ireland in August 2024. My colleagues and I are all delighted to have this opportunity to welcome you to Dublin, and Ireland more broadly, and to have this unique opportunity to share the best of global geographic research, share common challenges and opportunities, and connect with colleagues from across the world.

The IGC 2024 will continue the tradition of previous congresses in recognising that our world faces many common natural and societal challenges that can only be dealt with through global action, understanding and sharing. Geography as a discipline, its skills, attributes and the geographic mindset has much to offer other disciplines, policymakers, officials, politicians, and our wider communities. The theme of our congress is ‘Celebrating a World of Difference’ and we are strongly focused through our academic and fieldwork programme on supporting intercultural awareness and understanding; promoting intellectual diversity as a strength; bringing geographic research and thinking beyond the congress walls; and grappling with the complex interconnections between people, place and the natural world. In an increasingly contested, fragmented and troubled world, celebrating difference as a strength and acknowledging our common humanity is essential.

I invite you to explore the various pages of our website to find out more information on registering, attending and participating. We will be updating it regularly but for the most up to date information and important reminders, please do sign up to our congress newsletter.

For academic/programme queries, please contact us at and for registration and administrative enquiries, don’t hesitate to contact our congress partners at

March 6th 2024

Thank you to everyone who has engaged with our congress so far. We are very much looking forward to welcoming you to Dublin to what will be a really engaging, large and fun festival of geography. At the moment, we are receiving a lot of emails to various accounts so we are providing some information below which may answer your queries and also streamline your requests to help us answer them in a timely manner.

  • Registration: The Late Registration  is open (applies to authors also). For queries on registration, please email
  • Paper submissions: All notifications have now been sent letting authors know whether their paper has been accepted or not. Please check your Spam/Junk folder if you have not received anything to date. Notifications were sent to the email address that you used on your submission on 26th February 2024.
  • Congress programme: The congress programme has now been published on the website here. Given the scale of our programme (30+ parallel sessions over 5 full days with 2,700 participants), it has not been possible to accommodate every scheduling request but we have done our best to accommodate those who wish to attend the RGS-IBG.
  • Panel and workshop sessions: We will be in touch by email with those who proposed panels and workshops in the coming weeks to gather further details on your participants and format. Please keep an eye out for the communication.

  • Visas: Full information in relation to visa applications and requirements is on our website. During the registration process, you will be asked whether you need a visa letter. It is important that you check ‘Yes’ during registration rather than emailing us to request a letter. Please check here for visa requirements:
