Get Involved!

The LOC is actively seeking interested academic and non-academic colleagues to get involved with the conference organising committee. We are seeking a range of volunteers across a range of activities and skillsets.

Why not watch this video explaining how you can get involved? And then complete our Expression of Interest form here.

We will be in touch with volunteers in the coming months.

Welcome to Dublin!

We are very excited to welcome all delegates to Dublin for the International Geographical Congress this August. Our programme is now finalised and we have a packed and diverse agenda for you to ensure that you make the most of your time in Dublin with us. As well as the main conference programme, we also have:

  • A comprehensive fieldtrip programme. For those who have booked trips, we will communicate the detailed arrangements to you very soon. If you did not manage to book a fieldtrip, you may be interested in some of the leisure tours that our conference partners, Keynote, have put on for you.
  • Part of our goal for this congress has been to engage a broad range of people across Ireland with the conference and with geography as a discipline. We have three public engagement events planned as part of our congress, open to both the general public and congress delegates. These will take place on Monday afternoon and Tuesday evening. You can find information about these and how to reserve your place here!
  • During the conference, you will have an opportunity to browse our exhibition space and meet some of our conference sponsors , partners and also see some Irish geographical research highlighted.

We will also have a range of events taking place outside our venue during lunch breaks including the ‘Circus of Climate Horrors’ to ensure you feel you are part of a major festival of geography.

We’re looking forward to giving you a Céad Míle Fáilte (hundred thousand welcomes) later this month,

Niamh Moore-Cherry, Frances Fahy and the wider LOC

Important updates from the IGC2024 Local Organising Committee

March 6th 2024

Thank you to everyone who has engaged with our congress so far. We are very much looking forward to welcoming you to Dublin to what will be a really engaging, large and fun festival of geography. At the moment, we are receiving a lot of emails to various accounts so we are providing some information below which may answer your queries and also streamline your requests to help us answer them in a timely manner.

  • Registration: The Late Registration  is open (applies to authors also). For queries on registration, please email registration@igc2024dublin.org
  • Paper submissions: All notifications have now been sent letting authors know whether their paper has been accepted or not. Please check your Spam/Junk folder if you have not received anything to date. Notifications were sent to the email address that you used on your submission on 26th February 2024.
  • Congress programme: The congress programme has now been published on the website here. Given the scale of our programme (30+ parallel sessions over 5 full days with 2,700 participants), it has not been possible to accommodate every scheduling request but we have done our best to accommodate those who wish to attend the RGS-IBG.
  • Panel and workshop sessions: We will be in touch by email with those who proposed panels and workshops in the coming weeks to gather further details on your participants and format. Please keep an eye out for the communication.
  • Bursary applications: The outcome of the bursary applications process was notified to all applicants on 3rd March 2024. Please check your Spam/Junk folder if you have not received anything to date.  Bursaries only cover the registration fee. We had 649 applications for 100 bursaries, and understand that many people may be disappointed. However, the decision of the bursary committee is final and it will not be possible to provide any further information. Queries related to bursary applications will only be answered from the bursaries@igc2024dublin.org email address.
  • IGU Travel Grant applications: The outcome of the IGU Travel applications was notified to all applicants on 1st March 2024. These are not part of the local organising committee organisation so we have no additional information on them. For any queries on IGU travel grants, please contact barcus@macalester.edu
  • Visas: Full information in relation to visa applications and requirements is on our website. During the registration process, you will be asked whether you need a visa letter. It is important that you check ‘Yes’ during registration rather than emailing us to request a letter. Please check here for visa requirements: https://igc2024dublin.org/visas/
  • Accommodation: Information on accommodation options is available on our conference website here: https://igc2024dublin.org/accommodation/. It will be possible to book accommodation as part of the registration process. Book now to ensure availability before April 26th.
  • Fieldtrips and social events: All details related to fieldtrips are on our website and it is possible to book all our fieldtrips and social events when you are completing your registration.
  • Social tours: In addition to the academic fieldtrips, we are providing delegates with a choice of tourist leisure tours, which can also be booked during registration. Please note these are general tours and not academic trips.

If you are sending us an email, please check that the information is not already available on the website. If your query is not answered there, please send it to the appropriate email address so that it can be dealt with speedily by the most appropriate person. We would appreciate if colleagues would not cc: multiple email addresses.
